Harper’s Bazaar Magazine: A how-to Create a Hair Product
It is no secret that our hair, skin, and nails are one big source and are essential to our health and hygiene. Hair is an expression. It can enhance our attitudes or create our moods, it can also be a form of art. Hair can be designed and styled in creative ways that can make an individual unique or stand out. Hair can be altered in ways that describe our personalities. It can be cut, colored, extended, shaved, and shaped in many forms and directions. Hair grows with each individual, as we go through life changes our hair changes with us. What fascinates me the most about hair is each individual's hair tells a different story.
What makes you, you? Defining your hair type and what it is that you are trying to sustain is the becoming of you. Learning to care for and love your hair and hair type is the first step. The best way to get to know your hair is wearing it out in its most natural state. Esstially when learning to care for your hair, finding the best products can be costly and stressful. However, It is always best to keep in mind that stress is a trigger for damaged hair and hair loss. Nonetheless, there is an ingredient for all hair types.
When searching for the best products we are also at the self testing stage and finding what will work. Although with hair you may see no change before the change comes. Before taking on suggestions I took time to search for natural ingredients to help with my condition. We may come from different backgrounds i.e racial, ethnic, and identifications ,but natural ingredients all work to do its job. Do not be discouraged if a product or ingredient does not give you results, what may work for someone else just may not work for you.
After researching an ingredient or product it is important to know how much of it to measure out and apply. Overuse of a product or ingredient could have downside effects causing dry hair or hair loss. Coming up with a hair routine is an effective way to control the use and track how often the product or ingredient is being used. The question I ask myself a lot is, well how patient do I have to be? Giving your hair time to adjust to change and seek results depends on you, a part of that is knowing how long it takes your hair to grow or go through changes. I will typically allow six months to seek results. The best things come to those that wait. Patience can seem like forever.
In the meantime we can still keep it cute and express ourselves with protective styles. This means avoiding heat damage by not applying heat so often to your hair. Many of us cannot go without a blowout, good thing our blow drying product owners already gave us the answer. Most blow dryers have a cool setting perfect for those who prefer to skip the wet or air dry style. Protecting your hair at night is important as well. I suggest silk wraps and/or pillow cases as well as making sure to wash these items weekly. What happens in your hair shows on your face and through your nails. Men and ladies, boys and girls, and babies the one essential product we all must have in common is a comb or brush. Not just any comb or brush, specifically one that does not pull or add stress to your hair. This allows you to avoid breakage and matting.
So, how have I created a product and hair routine? First researching the natural ingredients that helped with my condition, putting it all together and allowing time to take it course, wearing protective styles, and finally branding. I choose to be my brand because not only am I my first customer but my hair growth and maintenance represents my brand. My goal for branding is Look the Part. I have gone through many hair phases where I got to experience on several occasions a new start to hair growth. My routine may change but my product and ingredients have stayed the same.
As my current research, I recently learned to stay up to date on research as well. This allowed me to branch out with new creative ideas by reading articles and blogs. There is always something to learn. Dreaming to someday change experiences with my hair product I have written on the importance of researching the origin of my ingredients. Yet, I have also expressed becoming my product and with that I had to learn the origin of my roots. On my journey my mom was my biggest influencer. She taught me to care for my roots and how to gently treat my roots. Along the way I learned to be fearless and to wear my hair as my statement and I did that boldly. My first experience was a big chop and I cried at the change. Since, my hair has been through many experiences and journeys.
Lastly, I would say the biggest influence on hair maintenance is your overall health. Exercise and dieting plays a role in hair health and growth. Eating fruits and vegetables allows your hair and skin to observe vitamins. Remember the status of your hair will eventually show through your skin and nails. The best quality about hair is the rule remains the same and the rule is freedom for all. My future endeavors consist of designing, marketing, and publishing my product and being prideful on my journey.
